Alyssa “Aly” Montooth is delighted to join the Milestone family as an English Specialist/Essay Coach.

After graduating from The University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s of Science specializing in Secondary English Education, Aly began her teaching career at Cedar Grove High School in the Atlanta area, where she taught the school’s first AP English Literature class. During her eight years at Cedar Grove High School, she won STAR Teacher four times and was voted Teacher of the Year in 2003. In 2005, she began her tenure at Druid Hills High School, teaching senior English on all levels. By 2009, she completed a Master of Arts degree and a Specialist degree with concentrations in British Renaissance Literature from Georgia State University. In 2013, she was voted Teacher of the Year by the Druid Hills High School faculty; she then earned Region II Teacher of the Year, and ultimately became the 2013 DeKalb County School District Teacher of the Year.

Aly continues to teach Senior English at Druid Hills High School, enjoying every aspect of literature, language, and writing instruction: academic composition, creative writing, acting, presentation, student-driven projects, modern research techniques, and more. She is committed to helping students build upon their strengths and gain confidence as readers and writers with a warm, consistent, and enthusiastic approach.

She is eager to share the compositional techniques and rapport with students that she has honed over the last twenty-nine years with Milestone students as they prepare their college essays and other compositions.
