FAU: FAU has the Wallach Building for Holocaust and Jewish Studies opening next year, a first in the Florida system. They are also nearing completion of a new dormitory for 2nd and 3rd year students. FAU is committed to offering housing to all students that commit and pay a housing deposit by March 15th.
Florida Gulf Coast: FGCU has a new College of Health and Human Services, with a patient simulation lab, and 30 food delivery robots on campus! They offer an Honors college (by invitation only after a student applies) with 1,000 students. New this year is a B.S. in Hospitality Management, an expanding field – especially in Florida.
FIU: A new Engineering and Computer Science building is open on the main campus of FIU. They are proud to be expanding everywhere on campus, including their food options, which remain #1 for food in Florida. They have a new relationship with Baptist Health and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, which will offer good research and volunteer opportunities to the undergrads.
Florida Poly: This all-STEM university is only 12 years old, has a gleaming campus, offers only 13 degrees (though there are concentrations within each), and has a new Physics B.S. available this year as well as a new engineering building. Students have a project-based curriculum and end with a capstone project their senior year. New this year – 6 NAIA sports teams, 3 for men and 3 for women. Internships are required for all students, and the post-graduate employment rate is above 90%.
FSU: Florida State is proud to be ranked by Forbes as the #1 school for internships in Florida. Legacy Hall, the new business building, is opening for the 9,000 students with business majors. FSU is one of 11 institutions partnering with Google to leverage AI in their education and throughout the university. The application numbers to FSU increased more than 10% last year, and they are expecting very high numbers this year.
UCF: Students that want to make the UCF experience feel smaller have several options available to them – the Burnett Honors College (for high achieving students with high test scores), and the Compass and Excel programs for students interested in pursuing STEM majors. And new this year at UCF is a Health Information Management major. UCF is proud that they are the #1 supplier of new grads to the aerospace industry.
UF: A new Data Science Building is now open, and UF is “building AI-focused faculty and curriculum” – as they offer over 200 AI-focused courses. A new Honors Village opened, which houses over 1,400 students. UF is proud that 92% of their students are eligible for the Bright Futures scholarship, and more than 3,000 study abroad each year. As expected, the number of applications received this past year was quite high (92,000) and they anticipate an even higher number this coming cycle.
UNF: More than one half of the degrees conferred at the University of North Florida are in a STEM or health-related field. There are 5 colleges, including business and nursing. Every student is guaranteed one hands-on experience – either study abroad, internship, or leadership. Almost 100% of the graduates from their Computing and Engineering college were employed upon graduation.
USF: There are three campuses that each offer different majors for USF – the Tampa campus (with 40,000 students), St. Petersburg (4,000 students) and the Sarasota-Manatee campus (2,000 students). While anyone can take classes at any campus, there are residence halls at each, making USF feel like a smaller university. And the St. Pete campus, which features Marine Biology as an anchor major, has a floating classroom that was donated by the Monterrey Aquarium!
Most students are admitted during the Early Action round for each university. As a reminder, the Early Action Application Due Dates for each school are:
FAU Oct. 15 UCF Oct. 15
FIU Nov. 3 UF Nov. 1
FGCU Nov. 1 UNF Nov. 1
FL Poly Nov. 1 USF Nov. 1
FSU Oct. 15 (FL residents)
It is typically beneficial to apply early for the best chance of admissions and on-campus housing, so get those applications in as soon as possible!
